Before singing “Dear John” from “Speak Now” as a surprise song on Saturday night at her Eras Tour show in Minneapolis, Taylor told the crowd not to defend her.

“I was hoping to ask you that as we lead up to this album coming out, I would love for that kindness and gentleness to extend into our internet activities,” Swift said. “I’m 33 years old. I don’t care about anything that happened to me when I was 19,” she shared. “I’m not putting this album out so that you can go and should feel the need to defend me on the internet against someone you think I might have written a song about 14 billion years ago.”

Funny, she didn’t say any of this before the re-release of “Red (Taylor’s Version)” and the 10-minute version of “All Too Well” (hey Jake Gyllenhaal!).

“Dear John” has long been rumored to be about John Mayer, who is currently finishing up a tour with the Grateful Dead reincarnation band, “Dead & Company.” The two dated for a short time back in 2009.
